Eastern Michigan Young Marines, 2nd Battalion, Michigan Regiment, 5th Division, National Headquarters

The Eastern Michigan Young Marines Unit was formed in the Fall of 2004. We started with roughly 15 other Young Marines, who assisted in the training of the first recruit class, RC 412. This platoon had about 10 youth participating. As according to National Regulation, upon the Graduation of the first recruit class, we were granted our Official Charter as a Unit.
Throughout our time as a unit, we progressed from starting with seven youth to about 70, and we are still growing fast. One factor that keeps our unit thriving is the number of events that we actively participate in. The Eastern Michigan Young Marines unit chooses to keep the youth as active as they can by participating in events such as:
- Community Service events,
- Unit fundraisers,
- Drug Resistance Education Classes,
- Leadership Schools,
- Drill Competitions,
- Obstacle Course Competitions,
- Local Community Parades,
- Wilderness Encampments,
- ... and many more activities
Over the past years, The unit has logged in more than 7,000 Hours of Community Service overall. In addition, over 70 percent of the unit actively participates in our service events. However, the Leadership Schools and Encampments seem to be what the youth enjoy the most, as the Young Marines enthusiastically work together as a team to complete the event. Throughout the activities that the Young Marines do, they are constantly building Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork amongst each other - as well as camaraderie, or, "Esprit de Corps."
The Eastern Michigan Young Marines Unit is committed to fairness to each and every one of its members, regardless of rank, age, gender, or time served in the program. We firmly believe in following the protocols as stated from the program's National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The protocols are designed to insure fairness to it's members and the proper development of the youths involved within it. The youth are given nothing in our unit, but instead must earn their way through, so that they can walk proudly with integrity, knowing that they did it, and did it right.
As our unit thrives, we will provide the Young Marines with the necessary skills that they will carry with them throughout life, always providing a positive influence, and teaching them the values that will Strengthen the Lives of America's Youths.
